Dr. Sandra Marie (00:11)
Happy Hour for the Spiritually Curious podcast. And this is our new monthly bonus episode. And it is called Unlocking Your Universe. And it's gonna be conversations and cosmic insights with Dr. Sandra and Nikki Ackerman. So you're gonna be getting a lot
both of us as we move forward with this, we're gonna start out doing this monthly. We're really excited about it.
These episodes could be honestly five or six minutes long or knowing, Nikki and I, it could be an hour episode. It's hard to tell. We'll see where this takes us. Hey, how are you doing today?
Nikki (00:45)
I'm wonderful.
Dr. Sandra Marie (00:47)
Nice. Hey, I'm a little bit, I'm in my farm mode. We actually have been pulling off the big round bales off the field. So, you know, a little bit of a different vibe, but, you know, I was thinking when we were starting this and you had sent over that text about, you
something at the campfire, which, you know, that's one of my passions. I love it. And I was thinking about that earlier. I almost recorded from the back deck, but it's definitely the wind started picking up and.
I have a significant amount of wind chimes, so I'm not really sure that we wouldn't be drowned out.
more to come with this. This is a live thing. It'll look different. You're going to get to know us on a different level, and I'm really excited about that also. So we did this summit recently this summer, the summer summit called Spirituality Explained, because we know there's a lot of curiosity out there about spirituality. A lot more people
Nikki (01:23)
Yeah.
Dr. Sandra Marie (01:40)
You know waking up whatever that may mean air quotes there and it's a little different So Nikki and I we talk a lot, but sometimes we don't talk a lot like we may not talk for months or we may you know Talk for date a couple of times in a week whatever it looks like but we have these really amazing conversations and we're we used to always joke that we should record these conversations because they would make great episodes so jumping off that
that summit we did over the summer in July, we talked, we really focused a lot about words and language with spirituality. So we had a conversation last week on the phone and I told
it had been on my mind a lot and I was putting very conscious attention to my words
the effects. You use the term how your words affect your divine spirituality.
And we thought, you know what? We talk about this. Let's just do it. So I'm going to throw out the word work is what I asked Nikki. I said, you know, in my life, work
I think of work as work. I have to even think of how I want to define it. It's something that takes an extra set of energy that I may not enjoy. So I think of.
Work is not necessarily something you may enjoy, but it's a chore or something like that. Although there is work that I enjoy doing, especially out on the farm. But when we talk about spiritual work and healing energy, you I know that you do this as a therapist at your Reiki center. We work on our spiritual work. We work on ourselves. And I'm like, is work really the right word to you? Should we be coming up with a different word?
And we had a discussion that really didn't come to a conclusion. And then I called you, I told you I set intentions before I go to sleep. And I really set an intention about this work word because I just feel like we need to come up with a different word. Like I feel very passionate. And in my sleep space, I came up with the perfect word. And I remember it was like the best. And I'm like, my God, this is it. And I can't remember what it is.
Nikki (03:56)
That's good news.
Dr. Sandra Marie (03:57)
I texted her and I'm like, I can't remember what it is. So yeah, what do you think about that?
Nikki (04:03)
That is really interesting
it came to you and all of sudden, poof, it's like in the ether again. Right. Right, right. Or let it come to us, right? So it's really interesting because we do have these associations with words and especially with work and especially how we're indoctrinated in our country and we're such a productivity country. for me, there's
Dr. Sandra Marie (04:10)
Yeah, so it exists. We just have to figure it out.
Nikki (04:29)
with the word work, there's a lot of
I think that our culture also puts a lot of emphasis on work because if we have conversations, if we don't know someone, a lot of times they're like, so what do you do? What do you do? And we're not necessarily tapping into divine purpose, like what we're here to share our gifts and what have you. We're like, what do do to bringing in money and keeping the economy going? And it's like, go ahead.
Dr. Sandra Marie (04:54)
Exactly. know, it was interesting when I lived abroad for those three years. Other cultures don't do that. Like no one will ask you what you do for a living. It's not part of the conversation. No one really cares. That's not what we do. I think it's really interesting when you talk about, you know, those of us in the US and it's not a healthy thing, right? Because
Nikki (05:01)
Mm -hmm.
Okay.
Mm -hmm.
Dr. Sandra Marie (05:24)
I would say even like people from the minor Asia countries and in Europe, they're like, what's wrong with you people in the US? Like you work your lives away. Like, why don't you like want to enjoy life? And it just really struck me when I was out of it. And I was getting these other perceptions because it is so ingrained in that is our purpose, that is our success, that is why we're here, that proves our worthiness, what so many different things.
Nikki (05:52)
Right. Right. Exactly. That's when we get lost in that. At least I can speak for myself. It's so easy to get lost in this. it's like, and there's so many different populations that are affected with that as well too. If we think about it, you have a population who may not even be capable of doing whatever is considered work or people are judged about what type of work.
Dr. Sandra Marie (05:52)
And it so doesn't.
Nikki (06:17)
that they do. And it becomes a judgment, right? And it
like a status thing. And it's like that creates such a divide, such a
And what in my life, what one of the main goals that I don't know if goals the right word, purpose is that I'm working with this collaboration, collaboration, union and
And so and not only in what I do to serve
the people I work with, but in my relationships with all people, with my friends, with my family, significant others, whatever. And those things are important and there needs to be a bit
a respect for ourselves where we can judge ourselves and we can do that with this idea of
And the other association that many of us have when it comes to work is like, well, if you don't work, how are going to bring in money?
Dr. Sandra Marie (07:12)
Right, it's all, the greed and the money comes into it. And the lack.
Nikki (07:14)
that time. So
Yes, and survival instinct, right? So if I don't have this, I don't have
And bringing in spirituality into all this, truly all of our needs, whether it is the influx of money, the receiving of money, the receiving of what have
it's not coming from any particular person. It's not coming from any particular entity, agency, employer. It's coming from the universe. It's coming from if
I hesitate to use the word God. I use the word God, but to me it's a creator, the one, source, nature, life, what have you. Whatever you want to call it. It is the main provider. It is the source of everything.
Dr. Sandra Marie (08:02)
Yeah, I agree.
Nikki (08:02)
It's, we don't worry about running out of breath when we breathe. This is one of the biggest teachings I have. If we both breathe at the same time, we're not going to run out. If a hundred of us breathe in the same time, we're not going to run out of air.
Dr. Sandra Marie (08:07)
Woo.
Okay.
That's interesting. I hadn't thought of that. That's really interesting.
Nikki (08:19)
And so my teachers teach it's the same thing with money. It's energy. It's the same thing with the electricity. It's always flowing. You're not going to run out. It may be tethered whether you pay for an electric bill or not, but I mean, you're never going to run out of it. And so it's really fascinating to like just contemplate. Okay.
Dr. Sandra Marie (08:40)
Yeah.
Nikki (08:48)
So then what do I have to do is what goes through my head. And that's key because it's like,
does there have to be a doing?
Dr. Sandra Marie (08:56)
No.
Nikki (08:58)
Why can't we just be tapping the consciousness,
what makes our heart sing, live from our desirable place where we feel free, where we feel like we are truly making a difference with people
whatever it is that we do, and we will receive. A lot
times it'll come in through money, through payment. A lot of times it'll come through
Gifts a lot of time it'll come through just different ways that we wouldn't even Even think of it's beyond our imagination because it's from the universe our minds are limited You know there there we can connect with consciousness allow that consciousness to the big mind with the
Dr. Sandra Marie (09:33)
Yeah, very.
Nikki (09:39)
Come in through and as us, but we have these limitations right so what can we bring in to allow that flow? I feel like I'm tapping into so much here, but
at the same time, it's like, it's just that expression. Can
tap into something that totally makes our heart sing, that really makes us just feel, that elicits the joy that's within us? When we do those things and we share those gifts, we exchange in the law of circulation. We are giving of our gifts. It makes us happy. So when we give, we also
And
Dr. Sandra Marie (10:14)
Yes.
Nikki (10:15)
we receive in the feeling state, we receive from whatever we receive from external, and it just accumulates that way. And so I think one of the things in my own journey is like, okay.
So then is there an association between our divine purpose and receiving? Of course, there is going to be some correlation, I believe.
I think too, the other thing is people will ask how, and I'm very cautious about the word how because it's not always our place to figure out. But what I'll say is if someone is in this space where they're an
and they're not really totally thrilled with what they're doing, but they would like to start integrating things that they truly love into their life and start playing around with this.
Make time and space to be very intentional, even if it's 10 minutes, to do something that brings up that joy, that brings up that goodness. It could even be volunteering. It could be anything, right? It could be whatever it is that brings you joy and just let that go. It's going to come back to you. And as you spend more time doing this over a period of time and being consistent with
a person might even start receiving
This is kind of working out better for me than what I'm doing over here that is not bringing me so much joy. And people can start playing with it and start integrating different ways of being in their life. It'll bring down stress levels, it'll keep them
Dr. Sandra Marie (11:40)
That makes sense.
Yep, joy and happiness is a big key to this and I think we're hearing a little bit more about it. It hasn't been talked about. One of the things that you just touched on was the hows. So I'm gonna say the hows are what keep us stuck. I would say more times than not. And I think that we have to totally let go of the hows and release that to the universe. But that being said,
it doesn't mean that we're still not out there putting action to something. So to me, putting action to something isn't the same as figuring out the hows. Now, let me be really clear with you. I have spent the majority of my life, and I'm sure that there's still times where I'm like, you know, I am the epitome of how is this going to happen and how do I make it work? And a lot of what I've done in my traditional jobs,
Nikki (12:29)
Mm
Dr. Sandra Marie (12:44)
That's what made me successful was my critical thinking of figuring out the hows. Now in this manifestation and, you know, living life a little bit differently, it's almost like it's counter, it's the opposite. So it becomes counterintuitive. So when I say let go of the house and just don't worry about how it's going to happen,
Nikki (13:02)
Yeah.
Dr. Sandra Marie (13:08)
do think it's important to say that doesn't mean that we don't put action to it.
Nikki (13:13)
Mm -hmm. Yeah, I think that's how this whole conversation actually took place cuz I Cuz last week I was going through some stuff right and I'm like, well, how am I gonna get this done? How am I gonna figure this out? So where am I gonna do this? I'm like, okay first of all I just need to breathe and I just need to center because the house really I have no place and then but but he goes just like but we need to figure this out we need to pay things off we need to take care of
Dr. Sandra Marie (13:35)
Yeah.
Nikki (13:38)
and
quite comical actually because when I am in alignment and things do start happening for me, there's this sense of freedom like, my gosh, it was so easy. And then of course my own programming of it shouldn't be this
But what I will say too though, right, right, right. So I think what's fascinating though is that when we have intention,
Dr. Sandra Marie (13:52)
Because it wasn't work. We have to get rid of that work question.
Nikki (14:06)
we have intention of just being the best that we can be whatever that
and having that intention of doing it with joy and love and appreciation and gratitude when we do those things what the work is is being tapped into consciousness if you will so just kind of being in that state of joy being in that state
one with harmony and just being able to do the things that we absolutely love when we do that
Then,
let me back up. Because I want to get away from the doing. So what works for me, let me speak for me. Just going into a space of meditation for me, and I know this can raise up a lot of eyebrows for some people because people are like, I can't meditate. Let's put that aside for a moment. When we can like just.
take a breath, could just kind of just be in just be in a space and putting aside everything that is taking place in the moment that has led up to now just kind of put it aside, just focus on our breath and just knowing that the universe is always for us. The universe is always for us. It doesn't take anything away. It doesn't, it doesn't do
harmful. It is always in a loving, gracious way doing things for us.
So when we tap into this space like okay all is perfect all is absolute all is pure all is love Bringing that and washing that over us and over any circumstance or whatever and Then having appreciation and gratitude for it's okay with we don't know how things are gonna happen because we have a limited mind anyway The universe has infinite possibilities of ways happening when we can remember that and we can just surrender not give up But surrender and say okay
What is it that is trying to move through me? What is it that's trying to show up here? And then you might be driving, you might be engaged in whatever it is that you do to receive money, you may doing all these things, and you might have an aha moment, and something that really just sparks your interest, feels so good and warming. Those are the breadcrumbs. Those are when we take action. They're like stepping stones, you know?
This whole move into this new space was a huge stepping stone. I said, I'm going to grow into a wellness center.
it's moving towards that direction. There's some, there's services I would love to offer that I don't necessarily have a space yet for. However, this is a stepping stone towards that direction and took a lot for me to kind of just be like, okay, let's give this a shot. Let's give this a shot, you know? And
It's just those things and it doesn't have to be something as significant as this. It could be something so small. And it's when we start doing, taking those little, little steps, it's a movement. We're changing trajectory. We are shifting things. And this is how stuff begins,
an aspect of manifestation is what I will say.
Dr. Sandra Marie (17:07)
Okay, so I did an episode at one point this year on the loneliness epidemic. And you know, we both work in healthcare and you know, it's very real and it's what was interesting to me when I did my research on it was how global it is and how globally alike in very different cultures that we were. So when you said, you know, the breadcrumbs, the baby steps, it may not be like, okay, I'm gonna...
I'm going to move my workspace, my business, and get a different space, a bigger space, grow
When you said that, I was thinking it could be something as small and simple as putting yourself in a social situation that you're really uncomfortable doing to see where that may take you. And do it without any attachment to an outcome.
Nikki (18:01)
Yes, and that's key to letting go of the outcome, just letting it show you.
it's funny because also talking about taking small steps, I have these ideas in my mind, like, okay, what would it look like for me to be wealthy? What would my environment look like? And I have these two
they're like having toddlers in a house and my house is a complete mess right
And I'm like,
Well, my house went look like this. So it's putting that energy
I will organize my, not organize, I
clean the house. I'll pick up the clutter. I'll put things away, wipe things down, make it on sparkle. That's what I think of. Like, what does my environment look like? And so when we start doing that, we're putting energy towards something.
Dr. Sandra Marie (18:51)
Okay.
Nikki (18:51)
We're making it show up. So it could be something as small as that is cleaning a house because that's what it kind of feels like it looks like in my mind, right? You know, and then things will follow suit and even bring in
of experience of what it is that we desire.
Dr. Sandra Marie (19:07)
Okay, I'm going to have to think about that. I would have to say for me, know, my I'm doing outside stuff. So the inside really is not a good situation at the moment. But for me, it would look a little different than it would look like for you. like it would be having someone come in and take care of all of that for me and be able to just walk into a nice, beautifully clean, organized space all the time.
Nikki (19:35)
Yes.
Dr. Sandra Marie (19:36)
and then I would be able to provide someone else some resources where it benefits them. And you know, because I didn't, I just recently found out like there's people out there that like cleaning, like it makes them happy. It was just like such, I was like, what? I can't even wrap my head around that. So knowing that, it would, you know, it's that it's a benefit both ways.
Nikki (19:41)
Absolutely.
Mm -hmm.
Yeah.
Mm
Dr. Sandra Marie (20:03)
Okay, I'm good with that because I was a little hesitant in that manifestation and that I was creating an unpleasant work for someone else thinking that they perceived it the same way I perceived it because I had someone recently, I don't know what it was, it came up and I was, they were like, well, I, you know, I can do this for you. And I'm like, no, you know, I wouldn't want you to do that and stuff. And they literally said to me, why would you take that away from me? I enjoy cleaning. And I was like,
Nikki (20:32)
Isn't it interesting how we project stuff onto people? We don't even need to. We think we're doing what? Like we're trying to be like,
Dr. Sandra Marie (20:33)
I... Yeah.
Nikki (20:38)
you know.
Dr. Sandra Marie (20:39)
Yeah, exactly. So that was an interesting aha of more recent.
that being said, those creations are all unique to us and they're gonna present, well, they're gonna present however we create them. So we do need to put some intention on that creation process, but it'll look a little different. But going back to the words, when we talked on the phone last week or the week before, the word struggle kept coming up.
Nikki (20:58)
Sure.
Dr. Sandra Marie (21:07)
Because you and I, think we both had different things happening in life that we felt we were struggling with. was creating a struggle. It's like, do I say this without using the word to create something else? But that was, now I'm just reflecting back to the situation and the conversation. So I came up with the word for me to remove struggle.
Because someone had pointed out to
my friend, the astrologer, who we hold each other accountable with words and different things, she's like, do you know how much you use that word? Like, I hardly ever say it. And she's like, you say it all the time. So it's fascinating. So instead of, I'm struggling with this, it's like, hey, Nikki, I'm having this fascinating experience with the situation right now that's really interesting to me.
Nikki (22:02)
No,
Dr. Sandra Marie (22:03)
And then it really shifts even how you explain it. it makes, when I was doing it just internally with myself, with some of the things that I was addressing, it made me more positively solution -oriented versus like...
is the, you know, when's the next shoe gonna fall on me or what's the next negative consequence or something of that. It took me from a negative mindset and it took me from a negative emotional feeling of heaviness to a, well that's fascinating. You know, I guess if I look at it this, this is possibility. So it was more solution oriented. And then what I realized was my shoulders were dropping.
Nikki (22:36)
Mmm.
Dr. Sandra Marie (22:51)
So I emotionally was like, okay, fascinating. It sort of made me smile, chuckle, and have joy with it, even though it was in what I would consider a joyful situation. But it really shifted everything on so many different levels. And then I thought, we just talked about doing this
Nikki (23:03)
Yes.
that's
Dr. Sandra Marie (23:15)
conversation with each other over these things and I thought well if this isn't the universe bringing us some synchronicity here and something to talk
Nikki (23:22)
That's so funny. Yeah, I've been
really playing with the word grappling too, which is a little lighter to me than
But it's interesting because the way you describe it, there is a lightness in
It subconsciously brings up the idea that, wow, there are possibilities here.
there are possibilities here, whether when we think about struggle, we feel like it's kind of a dense feeling. We kind of feel boxed in. We don't necessarily
what our options are, because we're both really critical thinkers, kind of with the roles that we've held over time in clinical. I will say clinical and
Dr. Sandra Marie (24:07)
yeah. Yes.
Nikki (24:13)
it's so.
From all our training if you will and all our experience is so easy to go into that But it's almost like being on a hamster wheel as well, too then so when we open up that space and we can just be like, okay Yeah, this is kind of fascinating because what is actually happening when we experience these things is something is trying to move through us Something is trying to take us deeper into our
I call it spiritual practice. Everything's spiritual though
How can we be more loving?
can we move through the limitations that may be present that we may not be seeing at the time? How can we get underneath all
allow ourselves to simply just be?
Where was I going with this? When we give ourselves an opportunity to see these challenges as opportunity, that's how we grow.
part of that growth is we end up shifting
energy. We end up shifting our perceptions. And as we start honing in on different ways of moving through things,
our perceptions start shifting and changing. So as we continue to work through these, we're building that muscle, so to speak. So it's just like how we have these conversations like, my gosh, I was not the same person last month. I was not the same. I'm definitely not the same person as I was last year or the beginning of the
Dr. Sandra Marie (25:46)
Yeah.
Nikki (25:47)
And that's what happens. So as we put into to these challenges, if you will, these these fascinating experiences.
Dr. Sandra Marie (25:50)
Yeah.
Nikki (25:58)
of our
of, in my world, spiritual
and self -love and bringing in infinite possibilities, we start honing in on that and we start seeing how that shifts and changes everything. Everything changes in consciousness. It all starts in consciousness.
Dr. Sandra Marie (26:18)
Yes.
Nikki (26:19)
not the doing, it's the consciousness, allowing the consciousness to take hold and allowing us to allow that to move through us, right? And to move through whatever is happening. And so the more we do that, you know, whatever experience you have had, say two years ago, if that experience reappeared, you may not even recognize it because you have changed so much that you have elevated your consciousnesses, you're at a different space.
Or you might be like, don't even, wow. Or it's like, wow, that really doesn't faze me at this point. That doesn't really have any impact on me. You know, I see that in my own life. So whatever it is that we've experienced last week at one point, it's just going to be like, we might not even recognize that experience because we're just at a different space.
Dr. Sandra Marie (26:47)
That's
Sorry about
Really. No, I think that that's really important and you know, that's what I love, this unlocking your universe, because it's different for everyone and we're constantly unlocking our universe. So it's like you said, something that used to emotionally trigger us. Sometimes it's funny because we're like,
Nikki (27:20)
Yes.
Dr. Sandra Marie (27:28)
like I even forgot that that even existed in my life. like I know like,
I just want people to know, like, you're not kidding. There's like some weeks we might talk to each other three times a week, and it's like, hey, I don't know what's going on, but I'm telling you, I'm a different person again. Like, I've shifted. Something's happening inside. So, you know, for those of you who are out there, like, it's happening. And it's, sometimes you feel it, and you're like, wow, this is, you're not crazy. It's real. It's very real. So I just want to make sure that we're putting that out there for you.
Nikki (27:41)
No!
Dr. Sandra Marie (28:04)
And then at other times, have to, I'll be honest with you, I'll have people say to me, like, what have you been doing recently or something? And my paranoia, I'm like, well, what makes you ask that? And they're like, well, you've really changed in the past two weeks. This is what I've noticed about you. You've been just lighter and you're happier and they'll.
Nikki (28:12)
it
Dr. Sandra Marie (28:31)
they'll point out different things. Like I went to that conference in England, and it was about two weeks afterwards, and someone that I talked to pretty routinely says,
have to tell you, you're really different since you've come back. And I was like, you think
And then I started thinking about it. Like I didn't notice it at all.
And
Nikki (28:49)
He he.
Dr. Sandra Marie (28:50)
I ponder, I'm a ponderer, and I spent the evening thinking about it, and I thought,
Nikki (28:53)
Mm -hmm.
Dr. Sandra Marie (28:58)
wow, I just didn't see it until someone else pointed it out with me. So if you're not like feeling like, I'm changing a lot either doesn't mean that things aren't happening for you either is my point. I just want people to know that it's going to be unique and different. And one week it may be one thing, and the next week it could be something different.
Nikki (29:01)
Yeah!
I actually just hit that expression.
Right.
Well, and I just had that experience yesterday actually. That's
So funny. But what I will say too is it's not a linear process. So even though they may notice that you're not the same person as you were two weeks ago, there's also all that, that experience you had over the years. It is also contributing to current along with everything that we're doing currently, right? It's all intermixed.
Dr. Sandra Marie (29:27)
no.
Nikki (29:47)
You know, and it's just, it's just all part of the whole evolution
all that is. So yeah, it's fascinating.
Dr. Sandra Marie (29:56)
Yeah. Yep, and we're all knee deep in this evolution, whether it's you're consciously aware of it or not. And it's an exciting time. So this is what I'll put out there for you guys listening. Send Nikki or I a message. You know, respond. You can respond to it. I'll make sure both of our information's out there, our emails, our website.
Nikki (30:05)
Okay.
Yeah.
Dr. Sandra Marie (30:22)
You know, YouTube, this will be out on YouTube, add a comment. We're really excited to talk about whatever you want to talk about. Share an experience. I'm going to guess we've both been down, either one or the other has been down that rabbit hole at some point over the years here. And we can share our experience. And who knows, maybe we'll have you jump on the conversation with us. That would be pretty awesome too, right?
Nikki (30:46)
Yeah, yeah, we're all here together. This doesn't have to be a path anyone has to do alone in isolation. So and that's that's how these conversations happen, because we're reaching out to each other anyhow.
Dr. Sandra Marie (30:48)
Okay.
Absolutely not.
Yep. Yeah, we were no different than everyone else who's out there. Trust me. We have no special secret sauce that eliminates daily earthly things from happening in our lives.
Nikki (31:03)
Right, absolutely.
written.
Right. I agree with that.
Dr. Sandra Marie (31:18)
So Nikki, anything else you want to add or?
Nikki (31:21)
I think that's good for now and we will reconnect again soon.
Dr. Sandra Marie (31:26)
Awesome, so definitely we're gonna do this once a month. You know, we have a stretch goal for those of you in the business community of doing it once a week. I have a feeling we might get there sooner than we think with it. So we're really excited. This is something new for us. Thank you for joining us and until next time guys, embrace that wild soul.
Nikki (31:46)
Great one. Bye.
