Kelly takes us behind the scenes of her own spiritual awakening from early psychic experiences and life-changing intuitive nudges to fully embracing her path as a professional medium. Her journey is a testament to courageously following your soul's calling, even when the world doesn't know quite what to make of your gifts. Welcome to the show, Kelly.

Thank you. I'm happy to be here.

Excited to have you. Kelly, I would like to start with, what did spiritual awakening look like for you? And was it sudden, like flipping a switch, or more like a slow unfolding?

Speaker 1 (01:34.03)
So I've always been spiritual or philosophical even as a child, to be honest. But I think for me, the moment that I consider my biggest awakening was more about career and what I should do on my path. And that is in 2017, I got a direct message from Spirit telling me to become a medium.

Well, that's pretty powerful direction. So I'll ask, was there ever a time when you tried to ignore or push away your intuitive gifts? And if so, how did that resistance show up in your life? So when you got that message, did you embrace it or did you fight it? Because I have a history of fighting things before I've learned to, it's much easier to accept it.

Yeah, you're not the only one who tends to fight their gifts at times. In my case, what happened was I actually, for many years, I lived in a more rural area in Georgia. When I was in that area, it was strongly rooted in the Bible Belt. And I didn't encounter that many people who were really into psychic work or mediumship work or even a more

open-minded spirituality. And so when I lived in that area, I mean, didn't feel like I was really open to explore my psychic or mediumship gifts while I was there. It's not really that I pushed them away, but I would say I didn't really fully embrace them. But then my husband and son and I moved to Asheville, North Carolina. We love it here.

And I've always said that Asheville is the type of place where whoever you are, you can be that in Asheville. And it was only a couple years after we got to Asheville, I actually was meditating and praying. was sitting at the base of a waterfall, getting in touch with nature and spirit. And I asked for guidance. I said, you know, I want to make a difference in the world. If there's something I can do to help others that I'm not already doing.

Speaker 1 (03:40.814)
please give me a sign and I'll try to follow your guidance. Well, at the time I was expecting something subtle like a friend loans me a book or something like that. What I got was a direct message from spirit on the spot telling me to become a medium to channel loved ones who crossed over. So I was like, okay, how shall I do this? Because at the time I did identify as a psychic but I didn't identify as a medium. So I asked how I could do that.

And then I got a direct message and answer on the spot. Read books, spend time in meditation, connect with other psychics and mediums. So I started doing all of that right away by the end of the month I was channeling.

really rapid and quick. So, Asheville is a beautiful area. I've been gifted to visit there a couple of times and just very wonderful, open-minded people. Absolutely what a great place to be. So, that being said, do you have some people or books that were bigger influences that helped you really explore and get started or this just like turned on and you are ready to go?

Well, if we're going to talk about people who influenced me or inspired me, I definitely need to give a shout out to my mentor, Jo Wynn. She's in Sussex, England. And I met her when I was a student at the University of Kent at Canterbury in England. I was just very interested in psychic work. I was involved a little bit. did some stuff, but...

She took me under her wing and taught me how to read tarot and taught me all the basics of energy work. So I definitely need to give a shout out to her. Now, once I became a medium, then I continued to consistently learn and practice things. One of the books that I do recommend for people who are interested in becoming a medium is a book aptly named, So You Want to Be a Medium by Rose Vanden Eden. So that was a good book, but there's so many out there.

Speaker 2 (05:44.736)
Nice. So were there any beliefs that you had to unlearn on your spiritual path? if so, what were the most surprising truths that emerged?

Yeah, so I think for me, it was more of a shift in perspective. You know, when we think about a medium, or at least this is the way it was for me, I used to think that a medium was much more like what they portray on Hollywood. You know, there's this special person with special abilities, and they are doing mediumship work, and they see a full-bodied apparition walk into the room, and then they have a conversation with full sentences.

And now that I'm a practicing professional medium, I realized that that's not the case, or at least not for me. What instead is I have to raise my vibration, spirit has to lower their vibration, we'll meet somewhere in between, and then I'll pick up on little tidbits, little flashes of information, and then I convey that to my client and hope that it makes sense. So it's a lot different than what I originally thought mediumship was.

You know, I can attest to that. That would have been, or if you had asked me 10, 20 years ago, that would have been my same thought too. And I don't have those abilities open, but I certainly have a lot of people in my life who practice and it is interesting. It's either a picture or symbol, what they mean to them sounds in it. It's unique to the person. It's almost like its own unique language. It sounded like to me how they do it. And I was like, it just, the whole thing fascinates me.

Yeah, it's funny that you would use the word language because I actually taught a class out in Sedona, the secret language of mediums, because it's interesting that what I've learned is different mediums will have their own systems where they have symbols, signs and symbols that are unique to that medium and that helps us to speak more quickly and efficiently. So for example,

Speaker 1 (07:49.742)
If I am in a mediumship session and I feel a sensation on the left side of my head, for me that's a symbol of a spirit who had a stroke, an aneurysm or a blood clot. I don't have to just be open and am I hearing the word stroke? I feeling like, for me, if I just get a little sensation there, boom, I know what that means. And so it makes me much more efficient when I'm communicating, but there are hundreds

of symbols that I personally have and every professional medium that I know of has a system of symbols.

Yeah, that was my experience. And it was funny listening. I have one of my best friends in medium, and it was interesting, just like a diaper pen or something has some specific meaning to him in his life. So when he sees that, it's sort of like the pressure on your head. It's fascinating. For you, have there been internal shifts that you've experienced through doing this work emotionally, energetically, or even physically?

I'd say that the more time I spend in spirit, the more relaxed I am about some of the regular little nuances in life that might have stressed me out before, because I start to have a more broad perspective about, you know, I believe that we are all spiritual beings living in physical bodies for the purpose of having the human experience. So if I get rained on,

If the heel breaks off my shoe, it's just all part of the human experience. And I find that I'm more calm, down to earth. It's not that I never get angry or frustrated. You know, I'm still human. But my perspective is a lot more overview of let's embrace this physicality while we're here and listen to the spirit world while we're hearing them.

Speaker 1 (09:51.136)
And so yeah, I think it's more of just an open, relaxed perspective than I used to have.

Nice. That's like you have a canvas of information to work with with those. I love it. You work both as a psychic and an evidential medium. And probably if you could help explain that for the audience, for the people who don't, it would be helpful. But can you describe what it's like to shift between reading someone's energy and the present versus tuning into messages from

loved ones and spirits and do they ever blend together during a session?

All right, so we've covered a lot of questions there. Let's kind of back up and take one at a time, because my memory is I don't want to give a halfway answer here. Fair enough. All right, so the first question that you want to know.

Can you talk about what an evidential medium is?

Speaker 1 (10:48.398)
Okay, very good. yeah, let's start with, in my case, I am both a psychic and a medium. Psychic just means I pick up on information outside of the five physical senses, whereas medium means I can use those skills to connect with loved ones who've crossed over. So a little fun fact, every medium is technically a psychic, but not every psychic is a medium. So that's kind of interesting.

And as a psychic, when I talk about picking up on information outside of the five physical senses, that's where we hear about the clairs, right? So in my case, I am an empath. I feel the emotions of others. I'm clairvoyant, so I psychically see images. Clairaudient, so I hear messages. Clairalliant, so I get psychic smells. Clairsentient, so I physically feel the energy. And also claircognizant, so sometimes I just know things.

I do like to acknowledge, of course, that everybody's a little bit different. Now, going back to mediumship, medium again, just means that someone could use the psychic skills to connect with loved ones who've crossed over. So that's where like clear sentience, where I'm physically feeling the energy, I might feel the energy, the concentration of energy on my left temple for someone who had a stroke, right? So we're using those psychic skills to connect with loved ones who've crossed over. Now, an evidential medium,

That just means that, like for example, I am an evidential medium and that means that I can bring through evidential details, little details that validate that I truly am connecting with that spirit. For example, I might get a spirit's appearance, their personality, how they passed, funny family memories, inside jokes. I even get exact names in about half of my readings.

impressive. It makes a difference. remember there were these ladies that I had worked with and they were always going to this one particular medium and they would talk about their experiences all the time and there must have been a lot of people transitioning and their families or whatever but I was much younger. Not that younger people don't have people transition. And I was fascinated and it was something I wanted to do and I remember saying I'd love to do this but I don't know any dead people. So eventually my friend said just

Speaker 2 (13:10.432)
set up the appointment and see what happens. And, you know, obviously it turned out I knew a lot of dead people. One of the people who was always with me was a grandmother who had transitioned way before I was ever conceived. So it was very eye-opening. Like you said, some of the information that was shared with this fellow who was in a different state that I had never met before and I'm on the phone and he's telling me and describing like where I'm sitting, I'm like, gosh, you can't make this stuff up.

There's no way that they would know that. that's pretty powerful. So I feel like you did answer most of the questions with that. So the other was talking about because you do both, what it feels like to shift between reading someone's energy in the present versus tuning into the messages from the loved one with the spirits. Did you want to add anything to that?

It is.

Speaker 1 (14:02.17)
Yeah, sure. So there's definitely a lot of similarity in that, right? Now, for me personally, when I do psychic readings, I usually will use a combination of reading the tarot cards and then just tuning in directly to the energy. I actually don't have to use the tarot cards. Like I can do a full psychic reading with no tools at all. But I find that the tarot cards are a nice complement to kind of make sure that it's either validating what I'm picking up from the energy

or it's giving a slightly different twist to what I'm picking up from the energy. So it's a nice compliment. Now, obviously the tarot cards, if I'm using that in a psychic reading, that's not something that I'm doing in a mediumship reading. So that's definitely one obvious difference right there. Now, when I'm doing mediumship work, some of it feels the same way and I am using some of the same skills as psychic work. So, you know, a lot of times people

are very concerned about. want to make sure that information is coming directly from spirit. So for me, if I have to be absolutely sure that I'm picking up on something from spirit and not from psychic work, then I actually can ask spirit to present themselves in a physical way. So I did that before when I was doing a missing persons case and I wanted to know if in fact the spirit was actually dead because that's not something you want to get wrong.

And so I just asked the spirit, said, okay, if this is accurate and I'm really picking up on you, I want you to present your physical spirit right here. I want to physically feel the thickening of the atmosphere right next to me. And he did do that. He presented himself that way. So I was able to confirm that, yeah, it was spirit that I was talking with and not just psychic information. And of course, then later they did find the body, so.

It confirmed it.

Speaker 2 (15:59.714)
So that's a perfect segue into how you use your psychic skills to assist law enforcement with missing persons and homicide cases. How did you first become involved in that kind of work and what inspired you to say yes to it?

I just want to be transparent and acknowledge that it's not a big part of my life. I would say that most of my work is with a client, but I do a small amount of work with law enforcement. And the way that came about, obviously there are lots of people who are coming to me because they've lost their loved ones. And in many of those cases, they're coming to me because they've lost their loved ones through suspicious circumstances.

And when that happens and they don't know what transpired, then spirit can tell me and I can tell them. You know, it's not 100%, but there have definitely been times just dealing with a regular client, not law enforcement, but around those subjects. For example, there was one of the earliest readings that I did along those lines. I actually got an exact name and I told the person the exact name. She's like,

Yes, I know exactly who that is and he was acting very suspicious. That felt like a solid hit. But obviously, you know, she can take that to law enforcement, but law enforcement has to have something tangible to be able to work with and no, no court of law is going to accept that. Well, the psychic said, you know, so I don't solve crimes. I just give evidence and information.

where the police can do their work. Now the first time that I worked with actual law enforcement, that was where somebody reached out to me directly. And they sent me a photograph of the deceased and I just opened the photograph up. I did this on camera so I recorded the whole thing and I just started talking about everything that I was getting, including unfortunately describing the very violent death and the location in which it happened.

Speaker 2 (18:05.47)
Is there a different energetic approach that you take to these type of cases when you're doing them?

Yeah, so it's not necessarily a different energetic approach. I will say that if I'm dealing with law enforcement, then I'm not going to focus so much on what was the person's personality or, you know, what's their message of love to their daughter or son, you know. It's obviously we're going to focus more on the facts if I'm dealing with law enforcement. So that's a little bit different. Now, for me, it's also a

very different way to work because I get zero feedback from law enforcement. Which makes sense, they can't share details of the investigation, right? So I just basically say, I'm getting this, this, this, this, this, this, this, send it over to them and they say, thank you.

So that being said, skepticism can be pretty strong in that forensic world. How do you navigate working with the police or investigators who may not fully believe in your psychic input?

It's actually kind of funny that case that I mentioned the first time where they sent me a photograph. After I wrote back and I sent them the video, everything, they wrote back to me and said, first of all, we'd like to apologize. We gave you a fake name before because we didn't want you to know what law enforcement you were actually working with, what precinct you were actually working with. But now that we've seen your video, the whole team's watched the video, we believe you are legitimate.

Speaker 1 (19:40.558)
So we apologized for that. We have to be careful. So it was kind of funny. They didn't exactly trust me. But it's cool that they were at least willing to give it a go. And I donate my services to law enforcement. So what do they have to lose? And also, it's completely confidential. I can tell you that I did this, but you'll notice I didn't say who I did it for or anything like that.

course, The relationship building is really, it's always important in any honestly any line of work that you're doing. But I can't imagine that this kind of work must take its toll on you. How do you protect your own energy and maintain spiritual balance after engaging with these really intense and tragic at times material?

Yeah, well there are several things that I do to maintain my own psychic protection and my energy. One thing is that in general I tend to only work in the realm of light. When I'm doing my readings for clients I ask for only positive messages that serve highest good. Now that doesn't mean that nothing bad will come through. It means that I will only pick up on challenging information if there's a benefit to my client to know about it. So whatever serves highest good.

when I'm doing mediumship work, I ask for only spirits of high vibration or benevolent intent. That doesn't mean that I can't get somebody who's, you know, a little low vibrational, like somebody who took their own life or something like that. But I will only channel them if they're coming through with positive intent. Right? So deciding how I work, who I work with, that's important. Also, there are definitely things that I do as far as like grounding.

and psychic protection, psychic clearing and cleansing, staging and whatnot, smudging. And so one of the things that I do is I have a particular energy work that I do and an affirmation that I say where I say, I surround myself in divine white light, encompassing universal love, joy, healing and protection. I freely radiate universal love to others while allowing myself to be affected only by positive thoughts, feelings and emotions.

Speaker 1 (21:55.694)
with ease and grace this or something better, thank you. So that's definitely part of it. And then the other thing, energy wise, I do have to limit the amount of work that I do. Typically I'll limit it to, typically it's no more than like four full readings in a day. That's a lot. Because I find that if I start doing a fifth or a sixth, that to me it just seems like the authenticity or the accuracy is just a little bit less on those.

fifth or sixth readings. I limit, typically I'll do a maximum of four readings in a day.

And thus the name of your business, we'll call it, is the Channeling White Light.

Yeah, the name of my company is Channeling White Light. And I say that because I'm channeling white light towards a better world. So in my case, you know, I'm really passionate about helping people. love helping people. And it's not just through my readings. I mean, I'm thrilled that my readings tend to bring people inner peace or inspiration, but I'm also very active in the community. So like my team and I will set up a blood drive, a coat drive, a school supply drive.

Beautiful.

Speaker 1 (23:06.702)
I'd like to donate monthly group mediumship readings to nonprofit organizations as fundraising events. So, you we do a lot of different things to help out the community as well. So that's why we're channeling White Life.

Nice, I like that. I do want to go back just real briefly and touch on it. I have found that, especially when someone transitions via suicide, that a lot of work that you and your peers do really can bring a lot of healing and closure, as that is, I think, one of the more difficult transitions for folks that are left back on the earth.

Yeah, I actually wrote a whole blog post about this that I've published on my website because when it comes to suicide, people do tend to wonder more about the wellbeing of their spirit, their soul. And I think part of this is definitely because some religions have some stigma where they talk about suicide victims ending up in purgatory. And, you know, I feel like I understand like you want to

discourage people from committing suicide, of course. But I also feel like it's important to know that, like in my experience, every person that I have channeled who died via suicide, they did go through a transition period. There's definitely some learning and some growing on the other side. But I also feel that they are surrounded by other loved ones and spirit guides and angels.

surrounding them with this love and light, comforting them and helping them to get through that transition and that learning period, that growth. But ultimately, every person that I have spoken to in spirit who has crossed via suicide is ultimately okay. They recognize that it was an error, that they wish they hadn't done it, but ultimately they're okay.

Speaker 2 (25:07.798)
Yeah, that's important. Thank you for sharing that because I know it brings a lot of peace for the folks left behind. take a look at some other work that I think that you're doing right now. Are you involved in a new project called Undercover Psychic? And can you share some insights about that?

Whoops.

Speaker 1 (25:28.28)
Sure. So, Undercover Psychic, that is the working title of a new television show that is in pre-production. you know, who knows? We'll see. I can't reveal details right now, like which networks I'm in discussions with, but my producer and I are kind of working through some options. So, that I'm going to be a little coy about because it's still really early stages. Now, there's another project I could share with you that I think is also exciting.

And that's much closer to actual fruition. that is, and you're the first to hear this anywhere. I have just completed writing a psychic credibility scoring system. So this is really exciting to me. It's a very extensive system. There are actually 50 different evaluation elements and each element has a numerical score.

So if you're wanting to get a reading with a psychic or a medium, but you're not sure, you know, is this one credible or is this one credible? You can use the psychic credibility scoring system to go through and evaluate and answer these questions about the psychic or medium. And some of them are very simple questions. Most of them really are all simple questions, but they add up to a more comprehensive picture about whether or not

that person is likely to be credible or actually may have some things that could be considered major red flags. So for example, I'll just give you the first one. How did you find this provider? Did you seek out this provider that you're evaluating or did they approach you? Did they send you a message through your private messages, direct messages on social media, something like that? Because what we find is

legitimate, talented, authentic, trustworthy psychics and mediums have people coming to them. They don't need to go out and solicit business. And in fact, typically those who are going out and directly contacting people, those are the ones that you really have to look out for. Especially if they're saying something like, I've got your, you know, the spirit of your mother here and she's very unhappy with you or

Speaker 1 (27:54.198)
or she's stuck and needs help crossing over and needs you to get a reading to fix this. No, that's a huge red flag. So this psychic credibility scoring system, I've finished writing it. We're putting the finishing touches on it now. And it should be out on my website, channelingwhitelight.com, sometime coming up in the next couple of weeks.

that. So it's really a spiritual activism project for your profession. Yeah. Because I feel like there's not a lot of tools for people out there with your profession and know, spirituality is coming to the forefront and people have their own gifts that they were born with actually starting to be turned on.

You know, there's a lot of questions out there and there's a lot of people searching. So I love that you're creating validity tools to help people with that.

Yeah, you know, we know that there are skeptics out there who believe that every psychic or every medium is a con artist. We know that some people who portray themselves as psychics or mediums actually are con artists. But we also know that, or at least I know, that I am, we'll say, sincere. I mean, technically I could be delusional, right? And all of these...

Exact evidential hits that I get, including exact names, might just be crazy good luck, right? My point is that there will always be people on both sides, believers and skeptics. Of course. But to my knowledge, this is the first time that we've had a comprehensive tool that really can bring together and address both sides of that equation.

Speaker 2 (29:35.63)
That's nice. Now, do you do classes for like intuition or other projects or are you mostly focused with the different versions of the psychic and mediumship readings that you do?

Yeah, so I have taught classes in the past. actually recently taught a class at a conference in Sedona, Arizona. I taught a class on the secret language of mediums. So there's that. And then I taught a class at the Oregon Ghost Conference, which was psychic protection for ghost hunters. So I've definitely taught classes in the past. But for me, I tend right now, I tend to focus more on one-on-one mentorship.

It's like teaching a class, but it's just teaching a class to one person at a time based on what their exact needs are. And so that's actually listed on my website, Psychic Development Mentorship. If somebody's interested, you can just read all about it see if it resonates with you. But basically what I do is someone will come to me, we'll have a one-on-one session, or they can get a discount if they get a booking, a grouping of sessions, and they tell me everything that they've experienced and I...

talk them through that, maybe they have some questions about what it is they experienced. Then I guide them through every step that they want to be guided through on their psychic development journey. So for some people it might be how do I control it, how do I turn it off? Other people, how do I enhance it, how do I get stronger? Some people might even want guidance on starting a psychic business.

Okay, that makes sense. You talked about the possibility of undercover psychic there. just honestly, I love the title and I'm sure it's just a working title. Yeah. What else is next for White Light Channeling and Kelly?

Speaker 1 (31:19.842)
You know, the television show that is in pre-production, that's something that's very exciting. The psychic credibility scoring system is very exciting. So those are two really big things. Now I've got some other possible things that are in the future. Definitely there will be a book, but it's very, very early stages on that. Those are the big ones. I really can't get into more than that.

No worries. So again, for the listeners who want to work with you, can you just sum up again what it is that you offer and how they would connect with you?

Yeah, I mean the easiest way, the best way to get in touch with me is through my website, channelingwhitelight.com. I have a ton of information there, lots of frequently asked questions. People can go there to read more about all of my services, my sliding scale rates, read my reviews. You can actually watch video excerpts of my actual readings, see my full availability and book appointments online. That's the best is my website channelingwhitelight.com.

but also a lot of people enjoy my YouTube channel, which is also called Channeling White Light, and I'm on all the social media platforms, all the major ones.

And I said I'll make sure that I get that all included in the show notes and on our website also. So sort of winding up the happy hour for the Spiritually Curious podcast, we have three questions we like to ask each of our guests. If your spirit guides had a theme song they played every time they showed up for you, what would that song be?

Speaker 1 (32:50.35)
The name of the song is Rhythmic Funk. If you go to my YouTube channel, this theme song is actually played consistently on my music. And it's instrumental, so I can't actually sing it for you, but it kind of goes like, dum, dum, dum, dum, dum, dum, dum, dum, dum, dum, dum. So it's got a cool little rhythmic funk thing going on. That it's it's upbeat. It's kind of fun. It's kind of cool. Oh my gosh. Yeah. Thank you.

Ha!

I love it, and it's all about the vibration, right? Yeah. So next, imagine you're creating a spiritual survival kit for someone just starting their journey. What three items or practices would you put in it?

Love, love, and love.

That's what it's all about.

Speaker 1 (33:42.348)
You know, love yourself, love those around you, love spirit. Yeah.

Yeah, it really is that simple. I love it. That's great. At the end of the day, what's your guilty pleasure after a day of channeling spirit? Chocolate, a bubble bath, cheesy rom-coms, or something different?

Yeah.

Speaker 1 (34:04.48)
gosh, that all sounds great. I definitely love chocolate. Yeah, I definitely love chocolate, especially dark chocolate. I am vegan, but milk chocolate just doesn't appeal to me anyway. But yeah, dark chocolate, love that. I do enjoy a cheesy rom-com on occasion. Napping. Napping. Especially like if I do a lot of intense energy work during the day.

Sometimes I'll have to get home from work and just zonk out for 30 minutes or so before the evening. So yeah, that's one of my guilty pleasures too.

Awesome. That's a great self-care tool too. Yeah. So many times we walk away from that. Any last thoughts before we finish up?

You know, I think I would just tell people be true to yourself and listen to your guides and your higher self. And you got this.

I love it. We do have this. Kelly, much gratitude for all your wisdom and insights tonight. Thank you. Thank you for all the work you're doing and for all that you're doing to support this elevation that we're going through right now. And I love that you're so giving of your services and your time to volunteer and help other people. That's great.
